July 4th colored deviled eggs will reflect your Patriotic spirit for Independence Day

A snack tray covered with 4th of July colored deviled eggs will perk up the appetite of your guests to eat one or two. It’s fun to surprise family and friends with a patriotic food display. Deviled eggs are a great way to do it. Skip to instructions.

Colored egg whites make pretty deviled eggs for meals, parties, holidays, or special occasions such as a wedding or corporate dinner. We recommend you try the Easy Boil™ method of cooking eggs. It saves time and you don’t have to peel any eggs. (My least favorite part of making deviled eggs!)

4th of July Deviled Eggs

You can color the entire egg white or parts of it

If you are coloring the entire egg you have 2 artistic options. If you color the whole egg it will have a colored “rim” and white inside. If you cut the egg into halves and then color them, the entire half will be colored. Use a container that will hold the batch of eggs loosely. You will need to gently stir or move the eggs apart so that the coloring solution can reach all parts of the egg.

If you are coloring portions of an egg and not the entire egg, use a flat baking pan or dish to set the eggs in. To keep the egg from rolling over, slice a tiny part off of the rounded underside so that the egg will sit flat in the dish of coloring solution. After a little bit of egg white coloring experience, you will discover ways to make cute and colorful egg whites.

Egg whites are easy to color with liquid food coloring

For pastel colors, start with 6 drops of food coloring in ½ cup of water. For a vibrant color, mixing 24 drops with ½ cup of water is a good place to start. If the color is not dark enough, add more drops until you have the color that you want. Use increments of ½ cup of water to get consistent results and similar color density.

To color the whole egg or egg halves, place them in a glass or metal container that the eggs could be submerged in. Gently stir or move the eggs occasionally to make sure the egg coloring can reach all parts of the egg white. Let them sit until they achieve the color you want.

To make stripes or half-colored egg whites, start with ½ cup of water and 24 drops of food coloring for a vibrant color (less for pastel, more for darker). Set the eggs in the dish to see if the coloring solution is as deep as you want it to be. If you need it deeper, mix another ½ cup of water with the same number of drops of the food coloring and pour it in to reach the desired level. Let the eggs sit for 5 to 10 minutes. The longer the time, the deeper the color will get. If you have more eggs to color, remove the first batch and add more. Test the water level again and remove or add more coloring solution so that the eggs will have the same or similar color as the first batch.

Be Food Safe

Do the food coloring in the refrigerator if you want deep colors that take longer than an hour to set.

Refrigerate all cooked or deviled eggs until ready to serve. Refrigerate left-overs.

Enjoy having July 4th colored deviled eggs! It is a festive way to enjoy the holidays.
